SUMMARY:Reggaeville Easter Special - Cologne
DESCRIPTION:Line-Up: Steel Pulse\, Alborosie\, Hempress Sativa feat. Paolo Baldini Dubfiles  \nThe Reggaeville Easter Special returns this year for its 11th edition. By now\, reggae fans have a long-standing tradition of not going away for Easter — unless it’s to travel across the country from one show to the next. After all\, you can never get enough of the offbeat. \nThis year’s Easter Special showcases the full breadth of the genre. Veterans Steel Pulse from Birmingham may have long since settled in the United States\, yet they still stand as quintessential representatives of UK reggae — thankfully none the less sharp-edged or politically outspoken for it. \nOriginally hailing from Sicily\, Alborosie made the journey to Jamaica decades ago. His music embodies the openness of a true global citizen\, especially celebrated not only throughout Europe but across South America as well. At the Easter Special\, he will present his latest album Nine Mile live on German stages for the first time. \nMeanwhile\, Hempress Sativa has traveled from Vineyard Town in Kingston to California\, where her songs continue to praise the sacred herb while channeling spiritual forces and playfully flirting with dub aesthetics. This naturally brings Paolo Baldini into the picture\, with whom she recorded the now legendary — and viral — Vinyl Thursday Sessions in Papine\, Kingston. For the Easter Special\, the pair will arrive with their newly released collaborative album in tow. \nSo — have you dyed your Easter eggs in red\, gold\, and green yet? And have you tucked tickets for the Reggaeville Easter Special into your loved ones’ Easter baskets? With a line-up like this\, reggae aficionados of every persuasion are bound to get their share of the groove. \nThe Editorial Team

SUMMARY:RIDDIM Session: Lila Iké & Wurl Sound
DESCRIPTION:One of a kind! To di Wurl! One Wurl!\nLila Iké has all the makings of a superstar—something she proved not long ago with her Grammy appearance and at the Lost in Time Festival in Kingston. At the same time\, she remains more grounded than most artists in her field. She commands the full keyboard of reggae styles with effortless mastery. Long before she began conquering major stages with her dynamic live shows\, she was already rocking sound system sessions like a seasoned pro.\nThose sessions shaped her just as profoundly as the music of Garnett Silk and Lauryn Hill. Her exceptional talent did not go unnoticed by her mentor Protoje\, who welcomed her into his Indiggnation camp as early as 2017. Eight years later\, her acclaimed debut album “Treasure Self Love” earns a nomination for a Reggae Grammy.\nWithin the circle surrounding Protoje’s Habitat Studio in the mountains above Kingston—her home base—the term “Wurl” (Jamaican patois for “world”) has long been used for anything connected to Lila. Embracing the nickname\, she turned it into a childhood dream fulfilled. Together with Joshua Waters Rudge\, singer of the English band The Skints and an experienced selector\, she founded Wurl Sound. After sessions in Jamaica\, England\, and Japan\, the project is now touring Germany for the very first time. \nUp close & personal!\nRiddim Session #2 is all about breaking down the distance between artist and audience\, creating an atmosphere of genuine closeness and connection.\nHandling the warm-up and afterparty juggling are Cologne’s top selectors DJ Densen\, D‑One\, and DJ Adirock.\nTell a friend to tell a friend!

SUMMARY:Freedom Sounds Festival
DESCRIPTION:Friday: The Beat feat. Ranking Junior\, Sonic Boom Six\, Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen\, Sun Byrd\, King Zepha Band feat. B Dubbs\, Travelers All Stars\, The Modbirds // Doors: 5:00 PM \nSaturday: Hollie Cook\, Dave Barker Mr. Double Barrel meets The Magic Touch\, The Mighty Mocambos\, Junior Dell & The D‑Lites\, Reggae Workers of the World\, The Bandulus Revue feat. Jesse Wagner & Vic Ruggiero\, Flying Vipers\, Arte Bella & The Fellas\, Soothsayers\, Dunia & Aram with Lady Hatchett and Don Raffa\, The Magic Touch // Doors: 1.30 PM  \nReggae has many facets. Taken as an umbrella term\, it encompasses a wide range of Jamaican styles. Year after year\, the Freedom Sounds Festival brings together acts from around the globe\, primarily representing Ska\, Early Reggae\, Rocksteady\, Jamaican Jazz and related sounds—resulting in a richly varied musical program on stage. \nOne of Friday’s highlights is undoubtedly the English 2 Tone band The Beat\, featuring the successful father-and-son duo Ranking Roger and Ranking Jnr.\, whose appearance at Freedom Sounds in 2017 is still fondly remembered by many. By now\, the junior has stepped into his father’s shoes as the band’s lead singer. Also hailing from the UK are Manchester’s Sonic Boom Six\, who fuse Punk\, Ska\, Hip-Hop and Drum & Bass into an explosively danceable mix—complete with a clear political edge. \nOn Saturday\, it’s well worth arriving early\, as the festival’s main day features one major name after another. Headlining is the enchanting Hollie Cook. Effortlessly blending Reggae\, Lover’s Rock and Tropical Pop\, she has carved out a distinctive niche of her own. With Paul Cook\, drummer of the Sex Pistols\, as her father and Boy George as her godfather\, it comes as little surprise that her musical roots can be traced back to the legendary all-female punk band The Slits. \nDave Barker from Kingston is regarded as an important figure in the Reggae and Rocksteady scene. In the 1970s he rose to prominence as one half of Dave & Ansell Collins. The duo reached the top of the UK charts with their massive hit “Double Barrel”\, helping bring Reggae to an international audience. Dave Barker will come to Germany for an exclusive show; he will perform together with Berlin’s The Magic Touch – yet another compelling reason to attend Freedom Sounds.
